Sydney Sweeney cast to play Charlotte Witter in the Madame Web movie?

 

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has been cast to play opposite Dakota Johnson in the Sony/Marvel Madame Web movie. With Dakota rumored to playing Julia Carpenter, speculations have begun about Sydney playing Charlotte Witter, the granddaughter of the original Madame Web and the evil Spider-Woman.

For those unfamiliar with this character,  Charlotte Witter was the granddaughter of Cassandra Webb, the original Madame Web. A fashion designer who secretly worked with the sale of illegal goods, Charlotte's criminal activities put her in the tentacles of Doctor Octopus. Realizing her psychic potential, Doctor Octopus experimented on Charlotte and turned her into a human spider-hybrid with the purpose of hunting down anyone with spider-powers. Able to manifest psychic spider-legs from her back, drain spider-powered people of their powers, and hypnotize people, she stole the powers of original Spider-Woman Jessica Drew. the second Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter, and new Spider-Woman Mattie Franklin. It took the combined might of Spider-Man, Madame Web, and the three depowered Spider-Women to stop her.

With her ties to both Cassandra Webb and Julia Carpenter, Charlotte Witter could likely be the villain of the Madame Web movie.

Dakota Johnson cast to play Madame Web/Julia Carpenter

 

Dakota Johnson has been cast to play Julia Carpenter (the second Madame Web) in Sony's new Madame web film. Dakota confirmed her casting on Instagram with a simple web emoji.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Julia Carpenter was a psychic web spinning super hero who took on the identity of Spider-Woman when the original (Jessica Drew) lost her powers. Julia later took the code name of Arachne. When Cassandra Web (the original Madame Web) was fatally injured she used the psychic nature of Julia's powers to transfer her own psychic powers into Julia and made her the new Madame Web.

As Madame Web, Julia has her original powers of psychokinetic energy webs (her psi-webs) and the power to cling to walls with her psionic energy, along with the clairvoyant powers of Cassandra Web and her link to the Web of Reality.

The prevailing rumor is that the Madame Web film will have Julia explore the Web of Reality to introduce the Spider-Verse.

The Jade costume history

 

Daughter of the first Green Lantern, Jenny Lynn Hayden developed the power to generate the same mystical Starheart energies that fueled her father's ring and became the hero known as Jade. Able to fly and create any object she could think of out of fiery green energy, Jade had all the powers of a Green Lantern without the need for a power ring. Jade's first costume was a white-and-black sleeveless bodysuit with white boots and and green Starheart symbol. When Jade left her original team, Infinity Inc, to join the corporate superhero team known as the Blood Pack, she donned a dark green-and-silver bodysuit with a pocket belt and a modified star symbol. Jade discovered that the Starheart that was the source of her powers was a sentient being with very dark urges. The Starheart tried to make Jade it's vessel and gave her a starfield patterned black bikini with silver gloves and boots as her new costume. Jade rebelled and sacrificed her powers to seal the Starheart away. Jade's boyfriend Kyle Rayner (the current Green Lantern at the time) gave Jenny a copy of Hal Jordan's (the second Green Lantern of Earth) power ring and with it she wore the classic Green Lantern costume minus the mask. As she began to embrace her role as Earth's newest Green Lantern, Jade altered her costume to make it more her own, making it primarily black and white with Kyle's Green Lantern symbol on it. When Kyle absorbed a massive amount of Green Lantern energy stored in the sun itself, he became the Ion and used his new powers to tap into the residual Starheart energy in Jade's DNA and recreate her powers. Jade celebrated the return of her powers by changing the symbol on her costume back to a star symbol and added white gloves. When Jade became the leader of the hero team known as the Outsiders, she wore a sleeveless black-and white body suit with long black gloves with Green Lantern symbols on the shoulders. Jade died on a mission in outer space, but was resurrected by newly created White Lantern ring. As a White Lantern Jade wore a white-and-silver costume with the White Lantern symbol altered to look like her original symbol. Jade decided that the power of a White Lantern wasn't meant for her, and gave up the ring. She recreated her original costume with the addition of black sleeves, white gloves, and a glowing green crystalline version of her star symbol.

Linda Danvers Costume History

 

Linda Danvers was Kara Zor-El's replacement as Supergirl, as Kara had been retroactively erased from existence. Linda gained her powers from a protoplasmic life-form called the Matrix, which not only allowed her to shapeshift into a tall statuesque blond at will, but endowed her with superhuman strength, flight, invulnerability, and telekinesis. As Supergirl, Linda wore a blue leotard with a red-and-yellow S-insignia along a gold belt, red skirt, red boots and red cape. Supergirl began to manifest flaming wings of pure energy as it was revealed that the act of Linda and the Matrix fusing had made her an Earth-born angel. During a fight with a demonic entity, the Matrix separated from Linda to save her soul. Despite no longer having the Matrix's powers, Linda somehow retained about half of her orignal super-human strength and limited invulnerability and continued to act as Supergirl. No longer able to shapeshift into her Supergirl form, Linda created a new costume using a blonde wig to hide her natural brown hair along with a white S-shield bare midriff t-shirt, white gloves, a blue minishirt, and a red cape with matching red combat boots. Linda was able to find the Matrix and free her from the demons who held her prisoner and Matrix used her angelic powers to give Linda back her original Supergirl powers before leaving to explore the world on her own.  When a version of the original Kara Zor-El appeared on Earth, Linda learned the young girl was destined to die and took her place on her reality. The Superman of this new reality realized that Supergirl was in fact not his cousin Kara and fell in love with Linda. The two married and had a daughter and Linda became Superwoman, wearing a modified version of her previous costume with replacing the t-shirt with a white leotard and adding a gold belt. Linda eventually ad to give up her new life and restore Kara to her correct reality when she learned that she had greatly altered the timeline and was going to cause multiversal devastation. Linda managed to ensure that her daughter would not be erased once the timeline was reset before being returned to her original reality. Devastated that she had sentenced Kara to die and would never see her daughter again, Linda gave up her life as a superhero. Somehow Linda and Matrix were fused back into an Earth-Born angel once more, with a white toga to match her new flaming white feathered wings, before being trapped in hell for eternity.

In a universe where Kara Zor-El was the only Kryptonian  hero on Earth, Linda never fused with the Matrix and instead used a jetpack and wrist blasters to be the hero known as Interceptor, wearing a red-and-blue bodysuit with a fiery gold angel symbol, a red mask with gold lenses, and silver boots.

Cassandra Cain Costume History

With Cassandra Cain making her film debut in Birds of Prey, let's look at the many costumes she has worn in the comics.
Cassandra Cain, daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, was raised to be a killer at a very early age. Deprived of language so she would learn to read body moments, David Cain taught Cassandra how to fight and predict her opponents' attacks. When he forced her to kill a man she fled and lived on the streets until she was found by Batman and Oracle (Barbara Gordon, the former Batgirl). Offering her a chance to be a hero, they gave her the black Batgirl costume formerly worn by the Huntress. As she grew into her role as the new Batgirl, she found that her full face mask and black costume made people scared of her, so she tried to fight crime in Oracle's old Batgirl costume. However she soon found that she was far more effective and comfortable in her all black costume. When Batman was thought to be dead, Cassandra passed the Batgirl mantle to her friend Stephanie Brown and moved to Hong Kong to find herself. While there, she fought crime in a black bodysuit with silver armored accents, a lower face mask, and a cape-like scarf. When she was convinced to come home she created a new persona, the Black Bat. As Black Bat she wore a modified version of her original Batgirl costume, making the bat symbol sold gold and replacing her full facemask with a sleek domino mask.
After the events of New 52, Cassandra was the daughter of David Cain, known as Orphan. He raised Cassandra to be a killer to please the mysterious Mother. Mother deemed Cassandra a failure and David Cain died freeing his daughter. Cassandra choose the codename Orphan to honor her father and was taken in by Batman. At first her Orphan costume was a black and gold bodysuit with a utility belt, and she hid her identity with a bloody bat symbol "mask" painted over her eyes. After she officially joined Batman's team she donned a black full face mask almost identical to the one she wore as Batgirl and replaced her fingerless gloves with full gloves. In 'Harley Quinnand the Birds of Prey'' Cassandra wears a sleeker version of her Ophan suit with yellow bat symbol along with a black lower face mask and short yellow gloves.
In a possible future, Cassandra was Batwoman, wearing a stylized version of her Batgirl costume, with armored gauntlets, gold mask lenses, and huge yellow bat emblem.
In a different future, Cassandra is part of a team of Batgirls, wearing an armored bodysuit with a gold bat emblem and bat-eared cowl.

Huntress Costume History

With Birds of Prey making its film debut, lets look at the many costumes worn by one of the Bird of Prey's members, the Huntress.
Helena Wayne was the daughter of Batman and Catwoman from Earth-2. She followed in her parents' footsteps as a crimefighter and became the Huntress after her mother was killed. Her costume was meant to pay homage to both Batman (with its blue scalloped caped and gold ultilty belt) and Catwoman (with its purple color scheme and cat-like mask).
After the events of Infinite Crisis, Earth-2 was erased and a new hero became Huntress. Helena Bertinelli lost her family to a mafia hit as a little child and swore vengeance. As an adult she was inspired by Batman and decided to hunt down every member of the mob as the Huntress. Her first costume was very similar to the one worn by Helena Wayne, only more armored and with a darker color scheme. As she grew into her identity, Huntress slightly altered her costume, brightening the color and giving her leotard an x-like design. Huntress would later change the color scheme of this from violet-and-blue to black-and-purple and replace the leotard with a protective bodysuit.
When Gotham was separated from the mainland and quarantined, Helena took advantage of the confusion to create a new identity for herself. Donning a black bodysuit yellow outline of a bat symbol, a cape, and  a bat-eared cowl with a full face mask, Helena took the mantle of Batgirl (formerly held by Barbara Gordon until she was paralyzed from the waist down by the Joker). Batman allowed her to use the costume until Helena disobeyed his direct orders to stop the villainous Two-Face, and he stripped her of her Batgirl costume and he and Barbara gave the identity to  Cassandra Cain.
Helena became a reluctant member of the superteam, the Birds of Prey and returned to her Huntress persona, this time with a navy blue-and-white leotard with a purple mask and cape as well as armored purple gloves and boots.
With the events of New 52, Earth-2 was reborn. Once again Helena Wayne was the daughter of her Earth's Batman and Catwoman, and fought crime as Robin (wearing a red-and-green armored bodysuit with a yellow cape ad red mask). During an alien invasion, Helena accidentally fell through a dimension portal and landed on Earth Prime. She assumed the alias of Helena Bertinelli and fought crime on her new Earth as Huntress, wearing a black-and white bodysuit with purple accessories (that seemed to be a combination of the last two Huntress costumes). Eventually she was able to return to Earth-2 and redesigned her Huntress costume, making it sleeker and replacing the purple on her suit with white.
The real Helena Bertinelli on Earth Prime became Huntress after leaving the espionage agency Spyral. Her costume was a simplified version of her Earth-2 counterpart's black-and-white unfirorm, adding a hood and replacing the cape with a sleeveless trenchcoat.

Black Canary Costume History

With Birds of Prey making its film debut, lets look at the many costumes worn by one of the Bird of Prey's members, the Black Canary. The first Black Canary was Dinah Drake, the love interest of police officer Larry Lance. Relying on her acrobatic and martial arts prowess, Dinah Drake wore a black leotard over fishnet stockings along with a black bomber jacket and black boots. She hid her identity with a simple black mask. Dinah Drake and Larry would eventually marry and have a child, Dinah Lance.
As Dinah Lance grew up she discovered she had a metahuman power to create sonic blasts using only her voice. Calling her power the "Canary Cry", Dinah wanted to carry on the Black Canary tradition. Dinah wore a costume similar to her mother's costume, only with a blue jacket and without the mask. As she became a more accomplished hero, Dinah Lance decided to create her own version of the Black Canary costume, a blue-and black bodysuit with a bird-like design and white boots. When a drug dealer damaged her throat, Dinah Lance lost her sonic scream and quit being the Black Canary. When she finally decided to become a hero again, she created an armored version of her original costume with blue and gold accents, a canary utility belt, and no fishnets. She replaced her lost powers with golden discs capable of generating ear-splitting soundwaves. As she joined the the superhero team, the Birds of Prey, she added a jacket and armored leggings to her costume. When she regained her Canary Cry she created a sleek black and gold version of her first costume. Later she would add a black trenchcoat to the costume.

With the timeline altered by the events of new 52, Dinah Drake was once again Black Canary. As a member of Team 7 she wore a black and gold combat suit with blue fishnet patterns on the legs. Dinah was unknowingly injected with metagenes while on a mission and developed a sonic scream. She would become the Black Canary, wearing high-tech formfitting black-and-gold body armor over blue fishnet leggings. Later she would abandon her armored uniform for a punk rock look.  She wore a blue-and-black bodice with a black leather motorcycle jacket, cutoff shorts, fishnet stockings, and combat boots. In the altered reality called Gothopia, Dinah Drake was the sonic-singing Warbler, in a white-and-sky blue bodysuit.
