Cassandra Cain Costume History

With Cassandra Cain making her film debut in Birds of Prey, let's look at the many costumes she has worn in the comics.
Cassandra Cain, daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, was raised to be a killer at a very early age. Deprived of language so she would learn to read body moments, David Cain taught Cassandra how to fight and predict her opponents' attacks. When he forced her to kill a man she fled and lived on the streets until she was found by Batman and Oracle (Barbara Gordon, the former Batgirl). Offering her a chance to be a hero, they gave her the black Batgirl costume formerly worn by the Huntress. As she grew into her role as the new Batgirl, she found that her full face mask and black costume made people scared of her, so she tried to fight crime in Oracle's old Batgirl costume. However she soon found that she was far more effective and comfortable in her all black costume. When Batman was thought to be dead, Cassandra passed the Batgirl mantle to her friend Stephanie Brown and moved to Hong Kong to find herself. While there, she fought crime in a black bodysuit with silver armored accents, a lower face mask, and a cape-like scarf. When she was convinced to come home she created a new persona, the Black Bat. As Black Bat she wore a modified version of her original Batgirl costume, making the bat symbol sold gold and replacing her full facemask with a sleek domino mask.
After the events of New 52, Cassandra was the daughter of David Cain, known as Orphan. He raised Cassandra to be a killer to please the mysterious Mother. Mother deemed Cassandra a failure and David Cain died freeing his daughter. Cassandra choose the codename Orphan to honor her father and was taken in by Batman. At first her Orphan costume was a black and gold bodysuit with a utility belt, and she hid her identity with a bloody bat symbol "mask" painted over her eyes. After she officially joined Batman's team she donned a black full face mask almost identical to the one she wore as Batgirl and replaced her fingerless gloves with full gloves. In 'Harley Quinnand the Birds of Prey'' Cassandra wears a sleeker version of her Ophan suit with yellow bat symbol along with a black lower face mask and short yellow gloves.
In a possible future, Cassandra was Batwoman, wearing a stylized version of her Batgirl costume, with armored gauntlets, gold mask lenses, and huge yellow bat emblem.
In a different future, Cassandra is part of a team of Batgirls, wearing an armored bodysuit with a gold bat emblem and bat-eared cowl.

Huntress Costume History

With Birds of Prey making its film debut, lets look at the many costumes worn by one of the Bird of Prey's members, the Huntress.
Helena Wayne was the daughter of Batman and Catwoman from Earth-2. She followed in her parents' footsteps as a crimefighter and became the Huntress after her mother was killed. Her costume was meant to pay homage to both Batman (with its blue scalloped caped and gold ultilty belt) and Catwoman (with its purple color scheme and cat-like mask).
After the events of Infinite Crisis, Earth-2 was erased and a new hero became Huntress. Helena Bertinelli lost her family to a mafia hit as a little child and swore vengeance. As an adult she was inspired by Batman and decided to hunt down every member of the mob as the Huntress. Her first costume was very similar to the one worn by Helena Wayne, only more armored and with a darker color scheme. As she grew into her identity, Huntress slightly altered her costume, brightening the color and giving her leotard an x-like design. Huntress would later change the color scheme of this from violet-and-blue to black-and-purple and replace the leotard with a protective bodysuit.
When Gotham was separated from the mainland and quarantined, Helena took advantage of the confusion to create a new identity for herself. Donning a black bodysuit yellow outline of a bat symbol, a cape, and  a bat-eared cowl with a full face mask, Helena took the mantle of Batgirl (formerly held by Barbara Gordon until she was paralyzed from the waist down by the Joker). Batman allowed her to use the costume until Helena disobeyed his direct orders to stop the villainous Two-Face, and he stripped her of her Batgirl costume and he and Barbara gave the identity to  Cassandra Cain.
Helena became a reluctant member of the superteam, the Birds of Prey and returned to her Huntress persona, this time with a navy blue-and-white leotard with a purple mask and cape as well as armored purple gloves and boots.
With the events of New 52, Earth-2 was reborn. Once again Helena Wayne was the daughter of her Earth's Batman and Catwoman, and fought crime as Robin (wearing a red-and-green armored bodysuit with a yellow cape ad red mask). During an alien invasion, Helena accidentally fell through a dimension portal and landed on Earth Prime. She assumed the alias of Helena Bertinelli and fought crime on her new Earth as Huntress, wearing a black-and white bodysuit with purple accessories (that seemed to be a combination of the last two Huntress costumes). Eventually she was able to return to Earth-2 and redesigned her Huntress costume, making it sleeker and replacing the purple on her suit with white.
The real Helena Bertinelli on Earth Prime became Huntress after leaving the espionage agency Spyral. Her costume was a simplified version of her Earth-2 counterpart's black-and-white unfirorm, adding a hood and replacing the cape with a sleeveless trenchcoat.

Black Canary Costume History

With Birds of Prey making its film debut, lets look at the many costumes worn by one of the Bird of Prey's members, the Black Canary. The first Black Canary was Dinah Drake, the love interest of police officer Larry Lance. Relying on her acrobatic and martial arts prowess, Dinah Drake wore a black leotard over fishnet stockings along with a black bomber jacket and black boots. She hid her identity with a simple black mask. Dinah Drake and Larry would eventually marry and have a child, Dinah Lance.
As Dinah Lance grew up she discovered she had a metahuman power to create sonic blasts using only her voice. Calling her power the "Canary Cry", Dinah wanted to carry on the Black Canary tradition. Dinah wore a costume similar to her mother's costume, only with a blue jacket and without the mask. As she became a more accomplished hero, Dinah Lance decided to create her own version of the Black Canary costume, a blue-and black bodysuit with a bird-like design and white boots. When a drug dealer damaged her throat, Dinah Lance lost her sonic scream and quit being the Black Canary. When she finally decided to become a hero again, she created an armored version of her original costume with blue and gold accents, a canary utility belt, and no fishnets. She replaced her lost powers with golden discs capable of generating ear-splitting soundwaves. As she joined the the superhero team, the Birds of Prey, she added a jacket and armored leggings to her costume. When she regained her Canary Cry she created a sleek black and gold version of her first costume. Later she would add a black trenchcoat to the costume.

With the timeline altered by the events of new 52, Dinah Drake was once again Black Canary. As a member of Team 7 she wore a black and gold combat suit with blue fishnet patterns on the legs. Dinah was unknowingly injected with metagenes while on a mission and developed a sonic scream. She would become the Black Canary, wearing high-tech formfitting black-and-gold body armor over blue fishnet leggings. Later she would abandon her armored uniform for a punk rock look.  She wore a blue-and-black bodice with a black leather motorcycle jacket, cutoff shorts, fishnet stockings, and combat boots. In the altered reality called Gothopia, Dinah Drake was the sonic-singing Warbler, in a white-and-sky blue bodysuit.

Marvel's new Realm of Champions game introduces a new version of Madame Web

Marvel is going to be releasing a new RPG called Realm of Champions. Loosely based on the Battleworld from Secret Wars, in where multiple Marvel realities were fused into one planet, Realm of Champions is on a future world where the playable characters from the Marvel's Contest of Champions never got to return home from the Battle Realm and have created their own kingdoms.

One of the most surprising characters was the new Madame Web, leader of the Spider-Guild. This iteration isn't Cassandra Webb or Julia Carpenter, but instead appears to be a future version of Gwen Stacy aka Ghost-Spider. Judging from the cane, Gwen became Madame Web after an injury.

No release date for the game has been announced yet, but the story of this new world should be interesting.

New superhero movie announced by Sony, Madame Web!

Madame Web will be starring in her own movie as Sony announced plans for a Madame Web feature film. Rumors have been circulating that the movie will focus on Julia Carpenter as she is being trained to take over the role of Madame Web from Cassandra Webb.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Cassandra Webb was a mutant with vast psychic powers who suffered from blindness and a degenerative muscular disease that confined her to a mechanical life support web. Calling herself Madame Web, she was a valued friend of  Spider-Man and used her gifts of precognition, clairvoyance, and telepathy to guide him.

While she briefly regained her youth and mobility due to a magical ritual, Cassandra soon found herself reverted to her true age and then died at the hands of of the Kravinoff family. In her last moments, Cassandra  passed her powers  to Julia Carpenter AKA Arachne (and the second Spider-Woman) and made her the new Madame Web.

If the rumors are true, then Julia will be using her powers as Madame Web to open up the Web of Reality and explore parallel dimensions, possibly allowing Tom Holland's Spider-Man to travel to the Sony cinematic universe.

Vixen Costume History

Mari Jiwe McCabe has worn quite a few costumes as the mystic totem wielding Vixen. Her first costume was a blue leotard with a gold fox mask and matching gold gloves and boots. As she began to master her totem's animal ability mimicking magic as a member of the Justice League, Vixen changed her look to a tawny orange sleeveless bodysuit with matching gloves and a red belt and  short red boots (and gave herself a fox-eared haircut). She later decided to cut her hair and switch to a black leather bodysuit with purple accents and a purple utility belt. Vixen then simplified that look by making the entire outfit dark purple and added a gold belt. When Vixen joined super-team called the Ultramarine Corp, she donned a sleek black-and-orange uniform. As a member of the vigilante team, the Birds of Prey, Vixen put her hair in long braids and wore a sleek purple bodysuit with gold accents and matching jewelry. When she rejoined the Justice League, Vixen wore a orange bodysuit that was a sleeker version of her second costume with silver accents.

After the events of Flashpoint created the New 52 continuity, Vixen became the member of the Justice League International. Her costume was a yellow bodysuit with orange tiger stripes along the sides, short yellow gloves, a silver belt, and gold jewelry. And when she was asked to join the new Justice League of America, Vixen wore a stylized black-and-light orange bodysuit with stripe-like accents.

The Black Cat Costume History

Marvel's feline-themed thief has worn quite a few costumes while running across the rooftops of New York. Felicia Hardy fist made her debut as Black Cat wearing a a black mask, white fur-collared black bodysuit with white furred boots, and  matching furry steel-clawed gloves. She played to people's superstitions by setting "bad luck" traps near her crime scenes. After she met Spider-Man, she gave up crime to be his partner, and even underwent a dangerous procedure to acquire powers of her own so she could help him more. However her new powers to alter probability and cause bad luck were secretly a trap by Spider-Man's enemy, the Kingpin. Spider-Man had been permanently cursed by Black Cat's powers, and when he had the sorcerer Doctor Strange remove the curse, the counterspell caused Black Cat to lose her powers right in the middle of a mission and she was severely beaten by her enemies.
Black Cat created a new costume to hide her injuries; a special black mask to hide her broken nose along with a black-and-gold jacket over a white bodysuit. She blamed Spider-Man for her injuries and dissolved their partnership, only to discover that Doctor Strange's magic hadn't removed her powers, but had slowly altered them. Black Cat now had superhuman strength and speed, infrared night vision, and the power to shift her fingernails into long talons. To celebrate her new powers Black Cat donned a dark blue catsuit with white gloves, a gold belt, and a sharply-pointed black cat mask. However, when she saved Spider-Man from a device designed to steal his powers, she was affected by the machine and lost her abilities instead.
Even though she lost her powers for the second time, Black Cat landed on her feet. She had the criminal inventor, the Tinkerer, design a suit for her that would replace her lost abilities. He gave her a suit that was inspired by her original costume, only with a plunging neckline instead of a fur collar. Her new suit was created with microservos embedded in the fabric to boost her strength and speed, grapple hook launchers hidden in the fur cuffs of her gloves, and her gloves were made of polarized mesh that, when she flexed her fingers a certain way, would morph into magnetically-charged metal talons. She also had night vision contact lenses and balance enhancing earrings. Black Cat would later upgrade her suit to a more streamlined solid black suit with white fur accents. When she was asked to break the Green Goblin out of prison, Black Cat donned a solid black armored version of her suit.
When Black Cat decided to try being a superhero, she wore a new costume with elements from her previous suits, with a plunging neckline, thigh holsters, and white furred boots. But her luck would change when she decided to steal again, and ran into a Doctor Octopus-possessed Spider-Man. Doc Ock/Spider-Man beat her savagely and turned her over to the police. Blaming Spider-Man, Black Cat escaped and fully embraced her criminal nature, and donned a solid black catsuit with black fur accents, a silver belt, and gold cat's eye emblems on her collarbone.
In another reality, Black Cat wore a specialized cat-eared version of her original suit to fight alongside Wolverine. In the Ultimate universe, Black Cat still had her bad luck powers and wore a feline-themed black bodysuit with white fur accents and white gloves and a black cat mask with gold night vision lenses. And in the Supernaturals' universe, Black Cat possesses both her original bad luck ability and her cat-like physical powers and wears an open-toed black leather bodysuit with a spiked collar and a purple hair stylized into cat ears.
In the year 2099, Felicia's clone is the future Black Cat, genetically altered to have the feline abilities  of Tigra and the teleportation powers of Vanisher. She wears a black bodysuit with open toed boots and neon blue lights, and flowing blue plasma "fur" accents.
In the Spider-Man PS4 game, Black Cat wears a high-tech black bodysuit with white accents and mask-like googles with night vision lenses.
